The Ivy Community Charities of Prince George’s County, Inc. (Charities) was established as the non-profit 501c-3 tax-deductible arm of the Iota Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Its purpose is to support the cultural and general welfare of residents of Prince George’s County. In 2006, The Ivy Community Charities of Prince George’s County, Inc. contributed over $20,000 in scholarships to Prince George’s County high school students. Charities, as it is referred to, is the avenue by which corporations, foundations, public agencies and individuals may assist Iota Gamma Omega Chapter in its efforts to serve the community through tax deductible contributions. During calendar year 2007, Charities will expend over twenty-one thousand dollars on community projects including the Institute for the Growth and Development of African American Youth, known as Institute GADAAY.
Throughout its long and productive history, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has responded to the changing needs of society through programs designed to improve and protect the quality of life at local, national, and international levels. In this effort, the Institute for the Growth and Development of African American Youth was established. The Institute GADAAY is directed towards African American youth between the ages of 12-18, entering grades 7 thru 12.
The members of The Ivy Community Charities of Prince George’s County, Inc. are committed to continuing to provide ongoing activities, which address community service and educational needs of the community. The Institute for the Growth and Development of African American Youth exists to provide an opportunity for African American youth of Prince George’s County to enhance and cultivate their educational, cultural, community, and social growth through educational workshops, cultural activities, and participation in community service programs and projects.

The goal of the Institute for the Growth and Development of African American Youth is to promote the personal, social, cultural growth and development of young people to empower them to build self-esteem, self-confidence, improve academically and develop skills and abilities which will enable them to survive and be successful in life.
